Google's video-streaming platform YouTube has over the years received support for HD, 4K resolution, live streaming, 3D, 360-degree, and spatial audio. Now, the company has announced that it would be supporting HDR (High Dynamic Range) quality video as well.

HDR would deliver high contrast videos with increased detailing in terms of highlights and colour saturation. "Today we are adding support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) videos on YouTube. HDR videos have higher contrast, revealing precise, detailed shadows and stunning highlights with more clarity than ever. Support for wide color gamut means colors is more vibrant. Simply put, HDR unlocks the most spectacular image quality we've ever streamed," read the company's official blog post.

Users would now be able to view HDR images on supporting devices such as HDR TVs, with the new Chromecast Ultra. These would also be supported on Samsung's 2016-edition SUHD and UHD TVs as well. YouTube has also mentioned that even if users don't possess devices which support HDR, videos would still play in standard dynamic range. "As more HDR devices become available, YouTube will work with partners to enable streaming of the HDR version," the company mentioned in its post.

Youtube has already worked with creators, such as MysteryGuitarMan, Jacob + Katie Schwarz, and Abandon Visuals to bring HDR content for users.

It recently launched some new features for its video creators. These are aimed at providing the latter with a better control over comments made by users.

Creators can also promote a specific comment by pinning it at top in the comments section. In addition, whenever a creator comments on a video, his/her username would appear under the text in a different colour. This would make recognising comments posted by the video creator easier. As per the company, a few other features presently at a beta stage, would arrive soon.
